Kathryn Murphy

Kathryn was born in Maryland, where she developed her love of the ocean and swimming by competing and spending summer vacations at the Shore. From those early years, she never wanted to live far from the ocean and consequently attended Barry University in Miami, Florida, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. After working there as a nurse in dialysis and a medical surgical floor, Kathryn moved to Europe then Los Angeles, where she lived for 10 years. Here she worked as a nurse at the VA Hospital then became the mother of three daughters.

Besides raising her family full time, Kathryn became involved in numerous charity organizations in Los Angeles including: President of Junior Auxiliary, supporting the Hollywood Girl’s Club, Co-Chairing the First Opening Night of the Jr. League Antiques Show at the Ambassador Hotel, President of the Hancock Park-Windsor Square Historical Society, Member of the Costume Counsel of Los Angeles, Member of the Blue Ribbon Auxiliary to the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, Board Member of Cuisine a Roulette, a Meals on Wheels group.

In 1984, Kathryn moved to La Jolla with her family and began her community involvement all over again, this time focusing on her daughters. She was: President of St. Germaine Auxiliary of the Child Abuse Prevention Foundation, PTE Board at La Jolla Elementary, Bishop’s School Major Gifts Chairman, National Charity League with all three daughters, chairing the annual present dinner, Jr. League Chairman of Encore Hoorah for Hollywood, Founding Member of the Costume Council at the SD Historical Society, Interim Executive Director of the Child Abuse Prevention Foundation.

When her daughters were teenagers, Kathryn started her own retail business, The La Jolla Christmas Store, across from the La Valencia at 1111 Prospect St. This store closed and expanded into a 3,000 sq. ft. consignment store, and eventually moved into her third location at the La Valencia Hotel, The La Jolla Holiday Store, where she owned a busy gift shop for 12 years. While running the store full time, Kathryn received her real estate license in 2003 and has been successful at selling and leasing throughout La Jolla and downtown San Diego.

Kathryn’s extensive community involvement and social networking plus the business contacts at her store have catapulted her into her successful real estate career. She has spent her entire life networking, establishing close relationships, not only with these community groups, but also in the religious community.

Kathryn began her real estate career purchasing, remodeling, and selling homes in La Jolla and Los Angeles. She has constructed two custom homes, including one in the village , where she successfully obtained very difficult entitlements and became familiar with the building permit and construction process administered through the San Diego City building department. Over the past 10 years, Kathryn has developed an intuitive ability to sell and lease homes and condominiums in this community.

Kathryn currently resides in La Jolla and spends part time in Kauai, where she built a home for her family to enjoy. Her favorite hobby is spending time with her two grandsons and is looking forward to another in January 2013.
